My initial thoughts
So, twice in the last week I have been addressed with only my first initial in email communication by people who are basically acquaintances. Do they have some sort of undetectable attachment disorder? Am I the sort of person that you feel like you have known a long time just after meeting me? Do I inspire an unwarranted comfort level? I am interested in this phenomenon of addressing near strangers in a very comfortable manner. I guess it’s no different than calling someone “dear” while at the store, or “sweetie” in a diner situation.
In other news, I had Cream of Potato and Dill Pickle soup today for lunch, and it was super tasty.

In general, I don’t get why people can’t call you by the name you clearly call yourself? You haven’t emailed them as “C” so why would they refer to you in that way? I find it annoying. Pay attention people. We all probably introduce/refer to ourselves in a certain way for a reason! I’m just sayin’. Can ya tell ya hit a nerve?

i agree. i don’t like it when people i don’t know very well feel free to refer to me as jess. only close friends and family call me that…it something that naturally happens over time.
forget those that try to jump the gun. the right to shorten someone’s name is a privilage earned not just given!March 5th, 2008 at 10:58 pm. Permalink.

I love the title of this post, C2.
Love, C1 (or am I C2?)
p.s. I feel the same way when someone who has just met me calls me ‘Court’…I consider this a nickname that takes at least 6 months of semi-regular contact to achieve. Do you feel this way, Coll-Coll?

Hmm…what about when someone, who has earned the right to use your nickname, embarks on a crusade to have other people (who you’ve only recently met) use that nickname too? Hmm…I shall not name names or initials here…ahem.

The lady who tunes our pianos at work called me LD only, for like 3 years and she didn’t know what my real name was. It was bazaar to have an aquaintance call me that.
I think it’s cute when some of my friend’s parents call me LD.
