What you missed at FurFest this weekend
So, the Furries were in town this weekend, and we completely missed it. We had intended to crash the party, if not to hurl ourselves onto the furpile, then to shed (hee) some light on this curious subculture.
Well, it wasn’t in the cards this year, but man am I excited for next year. Just look at all the things you could have done!
Friday
Furry Variety Show
Furry Spirituality
Blessing of the Beasts
Pawpet 101
AstroFurs Star Party (in parking lot)

Ok, What Is a Furry? (sounds like this should have been on Friday)

Ok, so who’s in for next year?!
Romantic notions
A nice quote from Dorothy Sayers’ Gaudy Night, the book I am reading right now.
Harriet marvelled, not for the first time, at the untiring conscientiousness of administrative women. Nobody’s interests ever seemed to be overlooked or forgotten, and an endless goodwill made up for perennial scarcity of funds.
For whatever reason, I keep imagining the story to take place at Bryn Mawr. I wonder if our resident Mawrters would agree with this quote?
What I actually did in Philly
1. Was shown a bloody good time by our hostesses Kittyteef and TT.
2. Laughed until I cried, on several occasions.
3. Bestowed much love upon kitties Samson, the yeti Neko and the ever-special Lois.
4. Took a perfect fall hike in one of the stunning Philly parks.
5. Drank Yuengling in moderation. So delicious! So affordable!
6. Had the Texas Tommy, one of the most frightening meals of my life, at Murray’s Deli. This despite the countless other appetizing options. This led to much self-reflection the remainder of the weekend… the main question being, what is wrong with me?
7. Created Miis of the Buffy cast on the Wii. Weird that there’s a whole site dedicated to celebrity Miis!
8. Shopped for yummy soaps at Duross & Langel.
9. Managed to limit myself to one package of Peanut Butter Kandy Kakes.
10. I am sure I am leaving out 100 different things, but it was such a fun trip. Thanks ladies!
Things I plan to do in Philly
1. Hang out with our friends, Kittyteef and TT, who just moved to Philly this past year. Will also hang out with Kate, who will be traveling with us, and who never reads this blog. Snap! And I can call her out on it, because you know what? She never reads this blog! Snap! snap! Yeah, I said it.
2. Conduct a blind taste test of Philly cheese steaks from competing cheese steak purveyors. All will be ordered “wit.” The things we do for science.
3. Wear my tri-cornered hat proudly.
4. Have arguably the best “sandwhich ever” at Salumeria in Reading Terminal Market.
5. Get a behind the scenes tour of Bryn Mawr with an actual Mawrtyr! We shall miss the other Mawrtyr that could not make this trip.
6. Drink Yuengling with wild abandon, as it is unavailable to us mere Chicagoans.
7. Watch in amazement as Miranda cleans out the Philly pretzel cart man in the airport on the way back.
