Happy Cicada Day!

How does one celebrate Cicada Day?

By running for your life between destinations and hiding for the next six weeks? Ok, cool.

Apparently, it’s on.

I give you cicada mania.

I think you celebrate by shedding your clothes & leaving them on a tree…like they do!

i think cicadas are really aliens from another planet…they’re just biding their time until they shoot laser beams from those red red eyes…and become our supreme masters.

ha. yes, i agree. i didn’t see any on my bike into work today, and was sort of disappointed. though when the time comes, i am sure i will be mortified. i am surprised actually that the fashion industry hasn’t picked up on this impending swarm and created mosquito net couture.

The food industry has picked up on cooking them. I’ve found recipes for “El Chirper Tacos” and “Southern Cicada Tartlets”. I did not see any recipes for Escicadacargot or cicadaaspic.

they say the cicada tastes like asparagus or raw potato… which i have to admit - sounds intriguing as a taste sensation. as for the texture. not so sure. do you leave the wings on or pluck them off? what about the rather large eyes? also how does one humanely slaughter them for human consumption? questions. so many questions.
